Fayetteville Information

Fayetteville is the sixth-largest city in North Carolina and is among the fastest-growing areas in the state. It is best known as the home of Fort Bragg, a United States Army post located northwest of the city. About 50,000 military personnel are stationed at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, and in addition to the active-duty personnel, the military employees approximately ten thousand civilians.

Health care is the largest sector in Fayetteville's economy, with tens of thousands of workers employed in the area's hospitals, clinics and doctor's offices. Other major economic engines include manufacturing, retail trade and food services. The largest private-sector employers in Fayetteville include Black and Decker, a maker of power tools, and Purolator, a producer of automotive filters. The Kelly-Springfield Tire Company and Wal-Mart are also both significant presences in the city.

Fayetteville serves as the region's hub for shops, restaurants, services, lodging, and entertainment. The Arts Center has rotating art exhibits, while Cape Fear Studios is home to a collective group of local artists and crafters displaying and selling their work. The oldest community symphony in the state, Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra serves as a musical resource for all citizens of the region.
